Nancy Hellman was a Mack Sennett bathing beauty who had a brief film career
She was born Anne Braxton Hellman on February 6, 1908 in San Francisco, California. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Sadly her father, George Hellman, died when she was a teenager. She began her career as one of Mack Sennett's famous bathing beauties. The lovely brunette made her film debut in the 1926 comedy Masked Mamas. Then she appeared in the films Should Sleepwalkers Marry and His Unlucky Night. In the spring 1927 she announced her engagement to Louisiana millionaire Watkins Davis but the couple broke up soon after. Nancy eloped with director Cliff Wheeler in December of 1927.
Just thirteen months later she filed for divorce. She claimed he "addressed all women in endearing terms" and refused to provide her with clothes. On July 2, 1930 she married William Henry Harrison, a mining engineer from South America. The couple lived in China for several years. After they divorced she married Stuart Wendell Shore, a plant manager. Unfortunately this marriage also ended in divorce. Nancy spent her later years living in San Diego, California. She died on April 28, 1982 at the age of seventy-four.
