Martha Pierre was a Ziegfeld Follies showgirl known as The Candelabra Girl
She was born Martha Mildred Perry in Indiana on November 30, 1898. Her parents divorced when she was a child. Soon after her mother, Lillian, remarried and the family moved to Pennsylvania. Martha joined the Ziegfeld Follies in 1919. The beautiful brunette was best known for wearing a costume made with real candles. They called her "The Candelabra Girl". On November 3, 1924 she married businessman Louis Treadwell. She quit show business after appearing in the 1924 Follies. Martha and her husband had two children together - Louis Jr. and Lillian. Sadly by 1939 they were divorced. She and the children moved in with her mother and stepfather in Florida. In 1945 she married Charles H. Danforth, a retired Air Force General. Tragically on January 2, 1952. she died following a long illness. Martha was only fifty-three years old. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered.
